So Windows will use RAM that is currently not in use to make your computer faster by caching. If you need the RAM (e.g. you open a program that needs that RAM) then Windows will automatically free up that RAM. So basically Windows uses left-over RAM to improve performance and gives it back as soon as you need it. No need to worry here.
Cost implications. Now let’s do a comparison of the going rate of RAM sticks in the DDR3 and the DDR4 category. For starters, DDR3 1600MHz SODIMM 16GB RAM (2×8 GB) from Samsung costs $38.00 while DDR3 16000MHz DIM 16GB (2 x 8GB) desktop memory module costs $49.98 on Amazon. In comparison, A Samsung 2666MHz DDR4 8GB SO-DIMM memory module
Only 8gb of usable but i have 16gb. Troubleshooting. yesterday i just discovered that i was using only 7.95gb of instead of 16. I tried the fix of msconfig, unticking the limit of memory to use (this works for everyone). It didn't worked for me, because the system doesn't apply my changes (i clicked on "apply" and "restart now").
But the big thing I realized, is that with my PC's 1x 8gb RAM installed, even that low amount of memory is in slower single-channel mode. So it will be a huge upgrade to increase to 16gb dual channel+another extra 8gb ram for a total of 24gb. I ordered the 16gb stick to add to my system. Thanks for the help guys!
0. 10,510. Aug 7, 2013. #1. Hey all, just built my new computer (gaming primarily), including one stick of 8gb crucial ballistix ram @1600. I was told at microcenter that A) I really should have at least 2 sticks of ram, even though it is already 8gigs. and B) The other module really should be the same size (8gb) as well as speed, etc.
Activities like gaming, image editing, and video editing take a lot more RAM than activities like browsing the internet and streaming video, so how you plan to use your computer will play a significant factor in how much RAM you need. Many users can get by just fine with 8 GB of RAM, but you might need 16 GB, 32 GB, or even more, depending on
The Apple silicon macs work vastly different to other machines Where more RAM, 32GB+, is effectively required. there is a chance that an M1 Mac with 8 or 16GB of ram would run more virtual hosts without performance penalty better than an intel machine with 64GB or more ram running equivalent Number of guests.
For my needs, 8GB is an overkill. I decided to buy an M2 Mini with 8GB instead of a feel good configuration of 16GB. My M2 mini will easily run a couple of Safari tabs, several Microsoft Edge windows and tabs, Firefox, Mail, Calculator. Memory pressure usually stays in the 40% range, memory usage is 6GB out of 8GB.
If you expect to need a ram upgrade beyond 16GB, which is unlikely except for heavy users, then go for a single stick, take the few % performance hit, and save money on an upgrade later - when you can just plug a second 16GB stick in [vs having to remove 2x 8GB sticks and replace them with 2x 16GB sticks]
Like the first section on different sizes, you don't have to use two or four, or six RAM sticks. No, you can use one stick of RAM—hence why manufacturers make and retail single sticks of RAM. You can also use three sticks of RAM if you want, but as above, it can come at the cost of overall performance. If you have two matching 8GB RAM sticks
Ebear225. For college I would definitely say 16gb. 8gb I would recommend for reading emails and web browsing. 16gb will save you lots of headaches later on. MattAdmin444. • 2 yr. ago. Personally, I'm always a fan of futureproofing. Spending a little money now can potentially save you more money later.
By Rammer Himel June 15, 2023. When the amount of physical RAM is exhausted, virtual memory ensures that the system keeps running smoothly by temporarily transferring some data from the RAM to the hard drive. If you have 16GB of RAM, you should set your virtual memory to between 1 and 1.5 times this amount of RAM, or 16,000MB to 24,000MB.
Yes, ram size does affect CPU performance. Generally speaking, the larger your RAM capacity is, the more information your CPU can process at a single time. Studies have found that increasing RAM from 4GB to 8GB can improve application speed by up to 20%. Moreover, having 16GB of RAM or higher can boost gaming and…
